Fred knew just where to take the homeless guy and he did so in record time. The guy thanked us for taking the time to help him just a little bit. As we were driving back home, it made me think about how much it would really cost to either purchase or construct a place for homeless people to get a shower and a clean bed for a night and maybe even a simple but comforting meal. One of the things that I don’t believe homeless people need is someone telling them that they need to ask God for forgiveness. I say, let them just get a nice hot shower and a decent meal and at least for one night, their life is a bit better. What I don’t girlfriend understand is how so many children end up on the streets. Most are with their custodial parent, but a few are on their own perky and those are the more difficult ones to reach, but they too need a simple meal and a place to shower and get a good tight night’s sleep. Mike and I haven't seen each other for a few years but I was just talking to him on Facebook and it reminded me of this get away and thought I'd share it with you guys. Last weekend was a long weekend here in NZ (Queens Birthday I think). Because of the work that Mike does he was working pretty hard late last week and the on the weekend but on Saturday Mike called me and asked me if I wanted to head six hours north to Hamner Springs for a couple of nights. Hamner Springs is well it is a place where there are some natural springs. It’s a pretty funky little town that is only there because of tourists. I’ve been there a couple of times before – it is a good spot to spend a night on the way to or from somewhere. And I told Mike that I’d love to come along. I asked him if there was anything I needed to organise but he said he had everything organised and he’d pick me up when he finished work asian on Sunday around four o'clock. Mike has a nicer car than me so I was happy to have him drive. The trip took us a good 6 and a half hours and we arrived up at the lodge around eleven PM.
